Natural Attractions in Red Hook

Outside of the beaches and a few parks, Red Hook is not especially known for any important natural attractions.  Fortunately it is located on an island and within a chain of islands where nature abounds no matter where you go, and it doesn't take much to see some of the most beautiful of Mother Nature's offerings. 

Nature Preserves and Hiking

Do you want to spend part of your vacation seeing the local flaura and fauna? You may be happy to learn the area has a few interesting nature preserves nearby.

Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge is a popular nature preserve located within Capella Island, 4.2 mi. South West of central Red Hook. You will need to find a boat charter of private ferry to take you over to Buck Island.

Parks and Botanical Gardens

Butterfly Garden

Visitors can spend some time in one of the many parks, as well as 4 botanical gardens nearby.

If you'd like to see some beautiful tropical vegetation, consider visiting Butterfly Garden, which is found within Charlotte Amalie, 4.7 mi. West of central Red Hook. Guests visiting the -Butterfly Garden will be enchanted and appreciate these very important insects as they encounter hundreds of butterflies. As you walk through the garden, you will be accompanied by a knowledgeable tour guide that will give you interesting, fun facts about butterflies and answer any questions that you may have.

Another attraction in this category is Emanicipation Garden. This urban park is dedicated to the abolition of slavery on St. Thomas in the year 1848. There are two memorials in the park that too are dedicated to freedom and human rights.
