Flying to Rincón

There are three different airports that tourists can use to get to Rincon

Puerto Rico is a large island that spans over 3,000 square feet of land. With that much ground to cover, locals often use domestic airports to commute between large cities. This plays in the favor of tourists as well, giving them three different options for flying to Rincón.

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport

The main international airport on Puerto Rico is the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Isla Verde, just outside of San Juan. Most tourists will first fly to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport before heading to their final destinations on the island, but this airport also serves as a hub for air traffic in the Caribbean. This means many passengers will land here from around the world, then take smaller airlines to different islands in the region.

If you look at the chart below you will see which airlines regularly stop at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, as well as where they travel from. This will help you to plan the most direct flight to the island.

After arriving at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, you'll have to choose between flying domestically to another airport closer to Rincón, or renting a car and making the two and a half hour drive. Rental cars are available in abundance at the airport and cost between $40 and $70(USD) a day. If you plan to fly, you'll make the journey to the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Airport (MAZ) which is just 15 minutes from Rincón in Mayagüez or the Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla. That airport is about 20 minutes away.

Eugenio Maria de Hostos Airport

The Eugenio Maria de Hostos Airport is located about six miles north of the Mayagüez city center. The airport is small one with 4,998 foot long asphalt runway. Flights are available direct from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport with Cape Air several times a day.

Rafael Hernandez Airport

Cape Air also offers several daily flight to the Rafael Hernandez Airport in Aguadilla from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport; however, tourists traveling from the United States may be able to schedule a direct flight to Rafael Hernandez Airport, completely skipping a trip to San Juan. Jet Blue, United Airlines, and Spirit Airlines offer direct flights to this airport from New York City, Newark, Orlando, and Ft. Lauderdale.

Currently, Rafael Hernandez Airport is relatively small, with one runway and two terminals, but because of the large amount of traffic the airport continues to gain each year, there are expansion projects in the works.

This chart lets you know which airlines have scheduled flights non-stop from the U.S. and the airports from which they are flying. The online booking services don't necessarily know about the best options so it can be useful to know which airlines fly directly to this location.
