Yes, Rincon is best known as the surf capital of Puerto Rico, but there is more this destination than beaches.  There is also a museum, a lighthouse, and a park where you can spend your days learning about the natural and cultural history of this sleepy town.  If you're interested in a night of excitement, you can head to nearby Mayaguez for a few hours in the casino.

Beaches

Rincon Beach

You will find a large selection of beaches to visit in the area. Just click on each beach name for more detail concerning that particular location.

Sandy Beach: The beach itself is a little rocky, and swimming is not advised unless you are used to strong currents are you don't mind cuts and scraps. The sand itself is not very level,so where you can often find shells here, there are prettier beaches to take a stroll on.

A second option for beach-goers to consider is Rincon Beach. With such a variety of beaches and surf conditions, Rincon is perfect for just about everything. Swim and snorkel in the calm shallow waters, or gather sea shells along the shore.

Domes Beach: Set between the Rincon Lighthouse and the inactive Nuclear Reactor of Puerto Rico (called the "Dome"), Domes Beach is one of the best surfing beaches in Puerto Rico. Swimming is not recommended due to the strong currents, sharp rocks, and pointy sea urchins, but many vacationers head this way to beach comb and watch as islanders test the waves.

Fortunately, the area is home to some other choices for beaches in the area. You can learn more here.

Natural Attractions

Mayaguez Zoo

One of the better known outdoor tourist attractions is Parque Del Litoral. Much like the Centennial Olympic Park was built in Atlanta, Georgia for the Olympics, in 2009, Parque Del Litoral was built when Puerto Rico was selected to host the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

A second attraction worth a visit is Mayaguez Zoo. The largest zoo in Puerto Rico, the Mayaguez zoo features at least 75 different animal species spread out over about thirty exhibits. While it will not stand up against the larger zoos of the world, it provides a great educational experience and a good way to spend the day.
