If Rincon is the surfing capital of Puerto Rico, than Maria's is the surfing capital of Rincon. During high season, the waves at Maria soar higher and crash harder than anywhere else on the island. Keep in mind that swimming isn't suggested here, but it is a great locale to watch local surfers, beach comb, and sun bathe.

Located on the island of Puerto Rico, You might want even if you aren't staying very close. Even though you won't find a bustling urban center here, many folks still find this a great destination since it has such a relaxed atmosphere.

How to Access The Beach
Maria's Beach is located at the junction of Route 413 and Road 4413. Travel past Lighthouse Park were you will find parking next to Calypso Cafe, and you can follow whale-shaped signs to the shore.

Amenities and Ambiance

Maria's Beach is a small, rocky stretch beach lined with thick trees and brush. The sand is tan colored, and leads to aqua colored waters.

There is also a restaurant on-location, which many Maria's visitors find convenient and satisfying. There are several types of dining experiences in Puerto Rico that visitors can partake in, but eating at the beach can be a particularly memorable one. Ask your hotel about picnic lunches, as some hotels offer to pack snacks for their guests' day trips. Otherwise, you could easily grab some of Puerto Rico's famous street food along the way.

Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside.

Don't forget that the area right around Maria's is visited by quite a number of tourists, so make sure to get a spot!

Beachgoers will find Maria's on the West coast of Puerto Rico; the area hosts attractions such as Punta Higuero Lighthouse, which is a few hundred yards to the north.

To some, beaches and museums may see like an unlikely combination, but some visitors find that museums like Maritime Museum (found only a walk or a short cab ride away) offer rare insight into Caribbean life and a whole new side of Puerto Rico's history.

Maria's is in the Rincón area, so a trip into the city is a definite option. The nearby town of Rincón is not lacking in exploration opportunities, yet also not overflowing with buildings. From the beach, Rincón is just up the road, roughly two miles (three and a half kilometers).

One of the best ways to round off a laid-back trek to the beach is to visit an area restaurant, where you'll be able to sample regional favorites, without straying too far from your current location.
