From the coast, Rio San Juan is a quick trip away, maybe three quarters of a mile (a kilometer).
Whether or not you encounter a lot of other visitors will depend on if you visit during a popular season, which is often indicated by how busy the hotels are. There are not many large hotels nearby, but it's often visited by guests from smaller lodgings in the area.
