Aktun Chen Cave System

Located within the Indiana Jones Natural Adventure Park are a number of activities that guests can participate in and lots of wildlife to see. One of the attractions on site is the Aktun Chen Cave system. Formed over five million years ago, visitors can now marvel at the variety of columns, stalagmites, and stalactites

The tour of the cave system is a 656 yard walking tour that leads visitors through paths that have been made safe to walk on. Of particular note within the caves are the domes and the 39 foot deep cenote filled with water. During your tour, a knowledgeable guide will tell you of the history and geology of the cave.

In addition to a basic walking tour of the cave system, you can also opt for exclusive zip-line and snorkeling tours.


Located in the Riviera Maya, Aktun Chen Cave System happily welcomes tourists rooming in this section of Quintana Roo. Regardless of whether or not you are staying nearby, you should consider stopping by for some fun in the sun. In case you're wondering, Akumal is to the southeast.

The Aktum Chen Cave System can be found along the Cancun-Tulum Highway, just 2.5 miles outside of Akumal and 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen. A staff member from the natural park will pick you up from your hotel for $20(USD).

The caves are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a guided tour will take about 90 minutes.


The tour of the Aktun Chen Cave System is not recommended for people with back problems, have recently had surgery, or for pregnant women.


The general tour costs $25 for adults and $13 for kids. The zip-line tour costs $36 and the snorkeling tour costs $20.
