17 | Shark Bay National Park

Shark Bay National Park was donated to the National Parks Trust in 1999, and is the first coastal nature reserve and park along Tortola's north shore. The park spans 18.4 acres and is great for hikers looking for a beautiful view.

Situated on Tortola, this park is located a short distance away to the northwest of Mooring-Mariner Inn.

18 | Mount Healthy National Park

Mount Healthy National Park protects part of an old plantation that once stood in the area. The central feature is the old windmill that was used to crush sugar cane which would then be sent to Britain, a major aspect of Colonial economy.

As the most popular snorkeling spot tied to the island of the same name, it can get a little crowded, but not so much that you should consider avoiding it. Turtles really love it here, and you'll also see an abundance of stingrays.

20 | Brewer's Bay Dive Site

With easy beach access, relatively calm water, and colorful coral, Brewer's Bay is a great place for beginning divers to get some practice. While much of the beach is shallow, some portions do reach fifty feet deep, so while it is good for practice, divers should still have training and proper equipment.

Underwater explorers will find the dive spot offshore, a couple hundred yards (a few hundred meters) from Brewer's Bay Snorkel Site.

21 | Brewers Bay Pinnacles

Brewers Bay Pinnacles are a perfect place for divers to see a large amount of marine life in a small area, including turtles, stingrays, lobsters, and an array of tropical fish. However, the water is relatively harsh at this site, so even though the depth is generally below 100 feet, it is recommended for advanced divers only.

Visitors will find this dive site offshore, only 0.7 miles (1.1 km) west of Brewer's Bay Dive Site.

22 | Tortola's Brewers Bay

Brewer's Bay, located on the northern coast of Tortola. If features an extraordinary stretch of light golden sand, with an incredible backdrop of dramatic green hills which overlook the beach.

This beach is located 0.8 miles (1.4 km) from Brewers Bay Pinnacles.

25 | Cane Garden Bay

Great local dining and colorful entertainment can easily be found along the shores of Cane Garden Bay. Live music wafts across the bay every night for everyone to enjoy.

Located on the eastern half of Tortola and in close proximity to the international airport, Long Bay offers a quiet beach spot for the entire family. Calm, shallow waters make for excellent swimming, while sea shell collecting stands as one of the most popular activities on Long Bay East. As many tourists head to nearby Trellis Bay, the beach at Long Bay is relatively quiet.

Mooring-Mariner Inn is located three quarters of a mile (one and a quarter kilometers) to the west of this beach, which is located on Beef Island.

44 | Brandy Wine Bay

A perfect crescent shaped beach with unbelievably soft sand and bright blue waters, Brandy Wine Bay is surrounded in dark green rolling hills. Thatched umbrellas line the beach to escape from the endless sun.

This beach is situated on the eastern outskirts of the hamlet of Newport, a short distance away east-southeast of Mooring-Mariner Inn.

11 | Elizabeth Beach

Elizabeth Beach, located on the northern end of Tortola and directly in front of the Lambert Beach Resort, provides visitors with an expansive stretch of white sand. The clear waters can get rough depending on the time of day, though calm periods offer easy swimming, so be sure to plan ahead.

Travel a quarter mile (a half kilometer) to the south west from Little Bay to find this beach.

15 | Josiah's Bay Plantation

One of the most recently restored attractions in the British Virgin Islands is Josiah's Bay Plantation. Once a run down parcel of land, this spot now allows tourists to glimpse what plantation life was like on the islands during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The beach at Apple Bay has been nicknamed the "Surfing Beach" so, if you're in search of the perfect wave this is the destination for you. During most of the year the waves are only around five to six feet.

54 | Fort Recovery

Fort Recovery is the oldest standing fort that is still in tact in the Caribbean. Built by the Dutch, it has never been altered or reconstructed, and it does not stand in ruins.

Situated on the beach, this historical site is 0.9 miles (1.5 km) south-southeast of Apple Bay.

55 | The Dungeon

The remains of an 18th century fort known as the "Dungeon" once housed a garrison of soldiers who stood guard daily over the island. The underground cell looks quite ominous, which is why it has been given its nickname.

Renowned as the birth place of William Thornton, the architect who drew up the plans for the United States Capitol building, Thornton Plantation is the ruins of a once sugar plantation.

Many people know of Dead Chest Island and don't even realize it, but it is true. It has been made famous by the "pirate" song that goes something like this: "15 men on Dead Man's Chest, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum." Of course, that is just hearsay, but many believe that the island of Dead Chest Island got its name after famed pirate Blackbeard left 15 men ashore the island with only a bottle of rum after a mutiny.
