Although Runaway Bay is considered to be a resort area, it is much less tourist-y than some of the larger towns on the island. The beaches are for sure the biggest reason to visit, though many are backed by resorts which claim them as private property and off-limits to anyone not paying for a room or a day pass. There are, however, two public beaches which have changing facilities that bookend the string of resort beaches to the east and the west.
There are a large number of beaches to consider visiting in and around the area. Snorkeling is available at some of the beaches, for visitors who enjoy this relaxing pastime. Simply click on individual beach names to get additional information about that particular stretch of sand.
One beach where you can go snorkeling is Puero Seco Beach. Puero Seco Beach looks out over Discovery Bay from the east. The shore is lined with soft, white sand and enjoys very calm waters. Especially by the port that juts out into the sea, you'll find that you can walk about 15 to 20 feet into the water before it begins to get deep.
A second option that beach-goers can consider is Little Laughlands Bay. Little Laughlands Bay is located in Saint Ann. Aside from a resort set on the beach, nothing except a river, trees, and flat lands exists for miles around the coast, making this a great locale for getting away from it all.
Priory Beach: A nice beach with easy public access and a very friendly vibe on Jamaica's northern coast.
