Underneath the tropical paradise of Jamaica is a whole underground world waiting to be explored. Heading to Green Grotto Cave will give you the opportunity to see the large caves that exist just under the surface.

At 1.525 meters long and 12 meters deep, there is a labyrinth of caverns and a subterranean lake located within the walls of Green Grotto.

As you first pass the deceivingly small cave entrance, you will stumble into the large cavern, full of complex stalagmites, pocketed walls, and a ceiling inhabited by the bats that call the caves home. During your forty-five minute tour, you will learn how the the limestone rocks were, over decades, slowly carved by gently flowing water, until it created the cave that now stands. You will also be given a history of the cave, and how it played a part throughout Jamaica's history as shelter to the native Jamaicans, hideouts for smugglers, and storerooms for arms during World War II, until finally becoming a historic attraction in modern times.
