Snorkeling Around Runaway Bay

A coral reef system offshore protects the coast and creates calm conditions for swimmers and snorkelers.  For this reason, snorkeling is a highly recommended and well-loved activity for tourists staying in Runaway Bay.

Salem Paradise Beach and Cardiff Hall Public Beach are two of the most highly recommended beaches in Runaway Bay for snorkeling, and guests who have had the opportunity to snorkel at the beach that belongs to Jewel Runaway Bay Resort have always reported a great experience.

Wherever you end up snorkeling, if you go on your own it is recommended that you bring your personal gear or you are prepared to rent a kit from a local dive shop.  While most hotels in the area do offer equipment to guests, it is only when they participate in their snorkel excursions.

Sea life is plentiful here, with sea urchins, brain and kidney coral, barracuda, lionfish, sting rays, and so much more to be seen.

Snorkeling Sites

If you'd like to explore below the water's surface you might enjoy Pear Tree River. The shallow area of this site features spurs and groves plus beautifully colorful fish swimming about. This is also a popular dive site, and if you can go deeper you'll be treated to swim-throughs and a great coral wall. This snorkeling site is located in Runaway Bay.

Runaway Beach is another option. A healthy collection of coral reef just off shore brings a great deal of marine life to this area for snorkelers to interact with.

A third site to consider is Runaway Beach. The underwater world is alive and thriving here. Snorkelers will have a chance to glimpse long spined black urchins, feather duster worms, sponges, whips, fans, coral, rays, turtles, and sometimes even nurse sharks.
