Traveling to Saint Georges Parish by Airplane

With the airport right in town, why wouldn't you fly to St. Georges?

Choosing to fly to your vacation in Saint Georges Parish is an easy decision to make thanks to the fact that Bermuda's only international airport is located right within city limits. The history of the airport itself is unique, and right away you'll be visiting a local landmark.

Located right in St. George's is Bermuda's one and only airport, the LF Wade International Airport. The grounds upon which the airport is set has changed hands over the years, from its original joint-ownership by the US and British military during World War II, to just the US military in the 1970s, and finally to the government of Bermuda in 1995. One lasting mark left on the airport from its time as a military holding is that it remains an official NASA Spade Shuttle Launch/Abort site.

Today, the airport welcomes over one million passengers each year, can handle air crafts of all sizes, and offers services to 14 destinations around the world, including the United States and Canada. Amenities at this airport include your basic collection of duty free shops and cafes, as well as an art gallery. There are also several modern conveniences that make the airport recommendable, including self-service kiosks that allow you to automate your trip through the duties claims in immigration, free WiFi Internet access, and powered seats for charging your electronic devices.

If you're traveling from the states the following table may come in handy. The online booking services may not recognize the least costly options so it can be helpful to know which airlines offer direct flights to this location.

Customs

Getting through customs is not something you should worry about at this destination. All that is required of you is a valid passport and you're good to go. If you plan to stay longer than 21 days, contact your local embassy, as a visa may also be necessary.

Transportation From the Airport

Visitors should know that renting a car is not an option anywhere in Bermuda. For this reason, buses and taxis serve as the best ways to get around. You can catch the bus from the airport across the street from the Departures building and get a ride to anywhere in town for around $3(USD). Doing so can be tricky if you're traveling with a good deal of luggage, which is why your initial use of local ground transportation should be a taxi. Taxis are metered here, but you can expect to spend about $15 to $20(USD).

Planning to fly to St. Georges couldn't be easier thanks in part to the fact that the airport is so conveniently located, but also because so many international flights are available on a regular basis.
