Cooper's Island Nature Reserve

Cooper's Island Nature Reserve is a nature preserve located within southeastern Saint Georges Parish. Once occupied by the U.S. military and NASA, Cooper's Island Nature Reserve is now an area of conservation that looks to protect local flora and fauna.

As the story goes, Sir George Somers asked that when he die, his heart be buried on Bermuda where it belongs. His nephew honored his request when he died in 1609 by burying his heart on the grounds that are now known as Somers Garden.

Another attraction in this category is Somer's Gardens. Named after Sir George Somers, who visited the Virginia Colony around 1609 and found the colonist starving. Vowing to return with supplies, his ship wrecked off the coast of Bermuda and he died.
