Attractions in Saint Lawrence Gap

Saint Lawrence Gap has a reputation for providing some of the best nightlife on the island, and the numerous casinos available here certainly play a role in those offerings.  During the day there is also much to be explored, so don't overdo it after hours.  For one, you can't skip the beaches, there is a bird sanctuary that those who are both birding enthusiasts and those who are not will find interesting, and a collection of landmarks of cultural significance that should be seen as well. 

Beaches

Welches Beach

Welches Beach: Know as one of the island's "windows to the sea," Welches is visible from Highway 7, so you'll have a hard time missing this beach, which is surrounded by Oistins, Miami Beach, Maxwell Beach, and Dover Beach.

Another option worth considering is Saint Lawrence Beach. Particularly during low tide, the water in St. Lawrence Bay is shallow, a result of both the location on the island and the local reef. Behind the beach are numerous restaurants and hotels.

Oistins Beach: Part of the parish of Christ Church, the beach typically hosts fishermen and fishing boats. Light vegetation allows for shade and calm turquoise waters permit swimming.

Landmark Attractions

South Point Lighthouse

If the more functional aspects of maritime life interest you, consider visiting South Point Lighthouse. The tower leading to the top of the South Point Lighthouse is closed to the public, but guests are welcome to tour the surrounding grounds, a well kept park that is popular for picnicking.

Another option is Wildey House. It's a historical site within reach of Saint Lawrence Gap. Visitors will be able to explore a variety of rooms furnished with beautiful and authentic mahogany furniture, historic memorabilia, and other items that would have been used back then. In addition, the property can be rented for parties, dinners, and weddings.

Banks Brewery Visitor Centre: The tour of Banks Brewery starts with an audiovisual presetation in the "Brewseum," which is located where the old brewhouse stands. Then, tour the Brewseum, where you will find orginal copper brewing kettles.

Natural Attractions

Orchid World

One of the more popular natural attractions is Queen's Park. While Queen's Park has a long history of having been passed from the care of one government organization to another, it has always been simply a well-cared for and beautiful place for children to play and adults to enjoy the scenery.

Orchid World is a second place worth considering. Orchid World opened in 1998 at the behest of the then Prime Minister of Barbados, and has since then provided a lovely attraction for visitors who enjoy the chance to walk through a lush garden and see a wide variety of orchids flourishing in the warm temperatures of the island.

Casinos

Looking for some action? Visitors hoping to try their luck in some gaming action will find lots of places to do so in and near the area.

Lucky Horseshoe Saloon Worthing has dining on-site, so you can grab a bite to eat before, during or after the gaming action. With a bank of slot machines to one side of the building, you may just be drawn away from your table to play.
