Attractions in Saint Lawrence Gap

Saint Lawrence Gap has a reputation for providing some of the best nightlife on the island, and the numerous casinos available here certainly play a role in those offerings.  During the day there is also much to be explored, so don't overdo it after hours.  For one, you can't skip the beaches, there is a bird sanctuary that those who are both birding enthusiasts and those who are not will find interesting, and a collection of landmarks of cultural significance that should be seen as well. 

Beaches

Welches Beach

You will find a small variety of beaches to consider visiting in the area. You can click on the beach names to read a detailed article concerning that specific beach.

Welches Beach: Once a small and unheard of beach, Welches has undergo expansive renovations and is now known as one of the best on the island's south coast. In addition to adding more shoreline with imported sand, the beach is kept beautifully landscaped and there is even a small boardwalk.

Another option for beach-goers to consider is Saint Lawrence Beach. The beach is accessible by foot and is directly off of Highway 7 and the St. Lawrence Gap road.

Oistins Beach: Oistins Beach is known more as a fishing spot than a touristy beach. Locals use the area for fishing activities and while the water is calm enough for casual swimming, the amount boat traffic and fishing poles suggest that guests proceed with caution.

Landmark Attractions

South Point Lighthouse

If the more functional aspects of maritime life intrigue you, consider visiting South Point Lighthouse. After being shown at London's Great Exhibition in 1851, the South Point Lighthouse was then disassembled and transported to Barbados where it was rebuilt as the first lighthouse on the island.

A second choice is Wildey House. It's a historical site within reach of Saint Lawrence Gap. The Wildey House has normal business hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Banks Brewery Visitor Centre: The tour of Banks Brewery starts with an audiovisual presetation in the "Brewseum," which is located where the old brewhouse stands. Then, tour the Brewseum, where you will find orginal copper brewing kettles.

Natural Attractions

Orchid World

Assuming you like being outside are likely to have a good time at Queen's Park. While Queen's Park has a long history of having been passed from the care of one government organization to another, it has always been simply a well-cared for and beautiful place for children to play and adults to enjoy the scenery.

Another local site worth considering is Orchid World. Orchid World opened in 1998 at the behest of the then Prime Minister of Barbados, and has since then provided a lovely attraction for visitors who enjoy the chance to walk through a lush garden and see a wide variety of orchids flourishing in the warm temperatures of the island.

Casinos

In the mood for some action? Those interested in testing their luck will find a few places to do so in and near the area.

D'Fast Lime Arcade is located within St. Matthias, 2.2 mi. West of central Saint Lawrence Gap. Located inside a small building marked by a glowing neon bar sign is D'Fast Lime Casino. The casino is open 24 hours a day for slot machine gambling, so guests can find out how lucky they are any time of the day or night.

Lucky Horseshoe Saloon Warrens is located in Eden Lodge, 6.1 mi. North-Northwest of central Saint Lawrence Gap. In Barbados, you could very well strike it rich while you eat. At the Lucky Horseshoe Saloons, a bank of slot machines offer a diversion between the time that you order and get your food, so it is plausible that you could wonder over, drop in a coin, and go home a winner.
