With one of the best bus systems in the region, it is absolutely feasible for you to plan to utilize buses as your main source of transportation in Saint Lawrence Gap and to get around the rest of Barbados as well.
Although buses originate out of Bridgetown and Speightstown, the extensive network of routes travels through most of the island's larger and tourist driven towns. Bus stops are marked by red, white, and black signs, which you can use to help determine where the bus is headed. Routes are also posted on the Barbados Transport Board Web site for easy access.
The buses run daily from 6:00 a.m. until midnight, and are known for their reliability. You'll pay BD$2, which come out to about $1(USD) for a one way trip, and you'll have to pay exact change in local currency if you decide on the public buses. Private buses cost the same, but can provide change.
Public buses are easy to spot because they are painted the island's national colors of blue and yellow. There are also two types of private buses on the island as well. One set, which operates out of minivans, are also painted blue and yellow, while the other, called “ZR” buses, are white minivans that are individually owned and operated. All three types of buses run on set schedules and follow specific routes, plus they all cost the same amount of money. The only difference is that private buses can be hired for private functions.
