Traveling to Salt Cay by Airplane

You'll have to plan your schedule just right to fly to Salt Cay

Salt Cay is one of the islands in Turks and Caicos that takes the most planning to get to, and even though flights are not very frequent, the easiest way to get there is to fly. The key to planning a getaway here is knowing that the airport on the island only handles domestic flights, so you will definitely have a layover elsewhere.

Your journey to Salt Cay will begin with a flight onto Providenciales, the most popularly visited island in the chain, and thus the only island with a fully operational international airport. The Providenciales International Airport (PLS) is a modern facility that welcomes commercial flights from around the world, including the United States, Canada, and Europe with many major airlines including Air Canada, Jet Blue, and American Airlines.

Flying to Salt Cay from the Caribbean

Once you've arrived in Providenciales, you can then make a connecting domestic flight to the Salt Cay Airport (SLX), though calling it an airport is a bit of a stretch. In actuality, the airport consists of one airstrip surrounded by a fence to keep out the wild donkeys. There are two airlines that offer services between the islands: Intercaribbean Airways and Caicos Express Airways. Currently, only Caicos Express Airways is offering flights to Salt Cay from Providenciales, and you can book a flight every day of the week except for Sunday for less than $200(USD) per person. If you plan to spend some time on Grand Turk, home of Turks and Caicos' capital city Cockburn Town, you will also be able to book a flight with Caicos Express Airways from the JAGS Mccartney International Airport (GDT).

See below for scheduled air service from airports in the Caribbean region. Even if there aren't any flights from an airport near you, making a connection through another airport could be a great option.
