For the people who reside on Salt Cay, the ferry that travels between Grand Turk and their tiny isle is one of their only connections to the "outside world." Despite being the second largest in the Turks Islands, Salt Cay is known for being difficult to travel to. In order to ensure that local residents had easy access to all of their shopping needs a ferry service was spawned that travels between Salt Cay and Grand Turk.
For tourists, this service is a great way to get in a day trip to Grand Turk. The trip takes just 30 minutes, so it won't cut into too much of your vacation time, but if you're hoping to take advantage of the service you'll need to make sure to plan accordingly.
The Salt Cay Ferry, also known as the Buckaneer, only makes three trips each way each week. It leaves from the ferry terminal on Salt Cay at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The return trip from Grand Turk is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday. It costs $12(USD) per person each way.
