Often, ferry services are put into use in the Caribbean to improve travel times and make life easier for local residents. It just so happens that tourists are able to benefit from the service as well. This is the case with the ferry that travels back and forth between Samana and Sabana de la Mar.
Samana is one of only two towns in the Dominican Republic that benefits from the use of a local ferry. "El Bote" provides transportation across Samana Bay to Sabana de la Mar. The trip takes just one hour, which is a huge improvement on the 10 hours it takes to get there on land.
El Bote travels from Samana to Sabana de la Mar at 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m., returning at 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. It costs just $4.25(USD) per person for the ride.
