Situated rather close to the capital of Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Mocoris is a city of cultural importance.   The town is home to a thriving university, has several museums, and a historic lighthouse that reminds visitors of how dangerous sailing through local waters can be when there is no light to guide you.  Natural attraction are not favored directly in town, but you can spend your days relaxing on the sandy shores of local beaches.

Villa del Mar Beach: Villa del Mar Beach is accessible off Carretta Nueva.

Another option that beach-goers can consider is Real Beach. This beach forms into a half moon shape. It has white sand and turquoise waters, and is dotted by coconut palms. An apartment complex separates the shore from the nearest road.

Juan Dolio Beach: Juan Dolio is a splendid stretch of soft white sand and cool blue water. This beach is centrally located near the capital, airport, and several other popular beaches on the southeast side of the Dominican Republic.

Museums

A landmark that often intrigues visitors is Museo Regional de Antropologia. It is found within Universidad Central del Este and situated in San Pedro de Macoris.
