Activities in Santo Domingo

One of the oldest cities in the New World, Santo Domingo is the Caribbean's first city.  It is a little different than other popular tourist destinations on the island, perhaps most comparable to Old San Juan on Puerto Rico than any other place on Dominican Republic.  Tourists will find a living, breathing entity that is the most urban of the cities here, alight with cultural attractions and many activities that center around the history of the island.

Sightseeing is the top activity in Santo Domingo, especially in the Zona Colonial area where there are historic churches, the oldest surviving European church, museums, and government buildings.  Shopping, dining, and partying after hours are also popular activities.  If you're interested in more adventurous activities and watersports, you may want to sign up for a tour that takes you outside of city limits.
