Santo Domingo is a top vacation choice for tourists interested in culture and entertainment, but beaches are not exactly their forte.  Most visitors will travel about two miles outside of town in order to find the picturesque Caribbean beaches that most people visit the island to see.

The Area's Beaches

You'll find a large selection of beaches to choose from in and around the area. Click on the name of each beach to get additional information concerning that section of the coast.

Guibia Beach: Located on the South Coast of the Dominican Republic, Guibia Beach is a popular surfing beach on the island. In fact, it was one of the first places that modern surfing was introduced to the islands.

A second alternative for beach-goers to consider is Playa los Cuadritos. This large beach is a bit away from the crowds, making it a good choice for those looking for some seclusion. The compromise though is a darker beach and darker water.

Playa Najayo: A tiny stretch of sand surrounded by trees and villas, Playa Najayo has the feel of a private beach without the price.
