Fortaleza Ozama

Fortaleza Ozama is the oldest military fortress in the Americas that is still standing. Completed in 1505, the fort stood in defense of Santo Domingo for hundreds of years, even serving as a prison after decommission until the 1960's. This gives the fort an operation lifespan of at least 455 years. Since the closing of the prison, the fort has served as a historical site for the public.
