Another popular destination is Antonio de Montesinos Monument. It is situated in downtown Santo Domingo. Donated to the Dominican Republic in 1982 by Mexico, the monument honors the friar Antonio de Montesinos, a main who stood up to the common imperial practices on the Taino, speaking out against the Spanish in 1511. Unfortunately, his bravery did not succeed in sparing the natives, as by the 1600's (just over a decade after the first landing) only a few families remained.

Faro Punta Torrecilla: The site is open to all visitors that want to see the lighthouse, though only from the ground. The tower is not open, and you will not be allowed to climb to the top.
