Anthropological Reserve of Cuevas del Pomier

Do you want to spend time seeing the local flaura and fauna? You might be happy to find out that the area has a good selection of nature preserves in and nearby.

Anthropological Reserve of Cuevas del Pomier is a popular nature preserve located in the vicinity of Santo Domingo, West of Santo Domingo. Visitors to the caves will able to explore several public sections, and will even be able to see some of the Taino art and artifacts that were left in the cave when the Taino left.

Those looking to locate a another great natural attraction will be interested in seeing opportunities like La Caleta Submarine Park. Created by scientists in order to see how marine life reacted to an artificial reef, this marine park is not not only a place for scientists to do their research, but a great dive site as well.

Parks and Botanical Gardens

Jardín Botánico Nacional

Travelers can enjoy one of the many parks, as well as 2 botanical gardens in Santo Domingo.

To surround yourself with beautiful tropical vegetation, consider visiting Jardín Botánico Nacional, which is found within central Santo Domingo. Few things are more relaxing than a stroll through a well-kept garden on a nice day. Jardín Botánico Nacional is the largest botanical garden in Latin America, giving guests plenty of time and space to wander and enjoy.

Another attraction in this category is Plaza De Espana. Plaza De Espana is a historic plaza that runs in front of Don Diego Columbus's former residence, as well as numerous shops and restaurants. The plaza is bordered by what were once the ramparts that walled the city in.

As the national zoo of the Dominican Republic, the zoo offers patrons fantastic sights of animals that you can only see up close at zoos or on a safari.
