As the busiest town on the island of Tobago, Scarborough is one of the best places to stay if you're hoping to avoid renting a car. In addition to the possibility of taking the bus, there are also always taxi drivers to be found looking for a passenger to take from one place to the next.
There are two different taxi options available in Scarborough. The first is a private taxi, which is the type of transportation you probably imagine when you hear the word taxi: a private vehicle that only brings guests traveling together from place to place. The other option is the Route Taxi. This type of ride is public, so the driver may choose to pick up more passengers who need rides along the way and squeeze them in until the vehicle is full. The benefit of this option is that it is less expensive than a private taxi.
When you're out on the street looking for a cab, be sure to check that the license plate has an “H”at the beginning of the tag number. This indicates that it is a legal taxi that is licensed to operate as public transportation. A “P” at the beginning of the tag indicates that the vehicle is private and should not be accepting money from strangers for a ride.
If you are stuck in a place where you can't hail a cab, try one of the companies below.

It is hard to pin point the exact price of a taxi ride in Scarborough because each individual company is permitted to regulate rates at their discretion. One thing can be said for certain, however, and that is that the cost of a taxi ride in this town is expensive. As you consider your budget for this service, be sure to keep in mind that you'll want to tip your driver around 10 percent of your total bill.
