Natural Attractions in Simpson Bay

Many of the attractions that pique the interests of travelers in Simpson Bay center on water.  In addition to the bay for which the town is named for, there are two other breathtaking bays and a seaside nature park in town.  These are in addition to some of the other larger, more structured attractions in the surrounding area including a zoo and butterfly garden, all of which are great ways to spend some time outside when you've had your share of beach time. 

Nature Preserves and Hiking

Loterie Farm Nature Reserve

Do you like spending time seeing the local flaura and fauna? You may be happy to learn the area has some nature preserves nearby.

Loterie Farm Nature Reserve is a nature preserve located in Saint Martin, 3.6 mi. Northeast of central Simpson Bay. This protected area is the largest on the island and a prime spot for any eco-tourist that find themselves in Saint Martin. The park offers numerous eco-orientated activities that will allow guests to enjoy the more natural side of the island.

Travelers hoping to find a another great natural attraction will enjoy exploring choices like Sint Maarten Marine Park. Proud of its aquatic heritage, Sint Maarten has established the entire coast as a protected area, placing restrictions in many of parts. While this does limit what activities you can participate in, it has encouraged marine life to thrive, making Sint Maarten Marine Park a great places for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Parks and Botanical Gardens

Guests can spend some time in several parks, as well as a botanical garden nearby.

Seaside Nature Park is located 1.9 mi. Southeast of central Simpson Bay. Visitors looking to explore the natural side of Sint Maarten will be pleased with the Seaside Nature Park; which takes an already beautiful natural coastline and combines it with miles of trails that twist in and out of the forest. Nature lovers will be able to explore the area and experience some amazing sights.

Another popular choice in this category is Emilio Wilson Historic Park. Although the Emilio Wilson Park is a traditional park where you can picnic, run, and play, the grounds have also been transformed into a living museum. Reconstructed versions of the slave quarters, an outhouse, a watch house, and a school stand on the grounds, waiting to be explored by history buffs.

Zoos and Aquariums

St. Maarten Zoo

If the concept of passing some time with interesting animals tickles your fancy, consider visiting St. Maarten Zoo. Just a few minutes drive from the cruise shop port, the St. Maarten Zoo is located just across the Salt Pond in Philipsburg on Arch Road.

Another similar attraction is The Butterfly Farm. Explore the beautiful colors of the Saint Martin butterflies and plants at this unique and magical attraction. You will find the enclosed area full of caterpillars, cocoons, and butterflies of all sizes.
