One of the perks of visiting an island in the Caribbean is that it is generally surrounded by warm, calm waters that are great for a number of watersports. This includes sailing. Going further than that, local ferries take advantage of these great conditions by utilizing the sea as a major form of transportation. South Caicos is one destination in which you can take a ferry to get where you need to go.
Unfortunately, this service is currently limited to Friday and Sunday trips with a company called Caribbean Cruisin'. Caribbean Cruisin' operates a set of brightly colored catamarans that are hard to miss out on the water. The ferry to South Caicos leaves from the on Providenciales at 3:00 p.m., sails for 90 minutes, allows passengers to leave the boat, boards the new passengers, then turns around and heads right back to Providenciales. Adults pay $60(USD) one way for this 90 minute journey, while children cost $40(USD).
is the only local ferry dock that we are aware of. You can find it in the northeastern part of South Caicos.
Perhaps in the future ferry services to South Caicos will be much more frequent, but for now the weekend trips are all that are available. Take advantage of the offering by buying a ticket and enjoying a leisurely sail to your quiet vacation – or by hopping on the boat for a quick weekend getaway.
