If you plan to stay in and around Spanish Town during your trip to Virgin Gorda, you may not believe how inexpensive cab fare can be. But be aware – as you start to venture out to more remote locations on the island the price can add up fast.
Rather than luxury vehicles that offer private transport, taxis in Spanish Town are actually multi-colored vans and buses that are designed to carry multiple riders at once. This can make it hard to tell if the vehicle pulling up is a random car on the road, or a taxi. If you're in doubt, check the license plate for the letters “TX.” When those letters are present, you can be sure the vehicle is a government licensed taxi service.
Because cabs make the rounds throughout the whole island, you may not necessarily have to order a cab with a home base in Spanish Town to pick you up and take you around.
With inexpensive fares within Spanish Town, hailing a cab isn't such a bad idea. Let a local who knows the roads like the back of his hand chauffeur you around during your stay, and take the stress out of getting around.
Rates for taxi rides on Virgin Gorda are regulated by the government of the British Virgin Islands, based upon where you are traveling to and from as well as how many passengers are riding at once, rather than metered to tick away another dollar or two for each mile traveled.
Not every spot in Spanish Town has a regulated price. If you happen to be traveling to a location that isn't on the list, you will be charged a general tariff which measures distance and the amount of passengers in the vehicle when determining the rate.

Pets, safely secured in a pet carrier, are welcome to ride for another $15(USD). If you need to make a stop, your driver will wait for you free of charge for the first 15 minutes.
