As the only place in the United States that Christopher Columbus actually was, this site is a popular attraction among Americans, especially those interested in history. This is also the site of the first recorded clash between the Europeans and the Natives.

3 | Fort Sale Ruins
Built in 1643 and abandoned in 1695, this triangular Dutch fort served four empires in its short history. Built by the Netherlands, it would later belong to the British, then the Spanish, and then finally the French who would abandon it.
This historical site is located about a hundred yards (a couple hundred meters) from Columbus Landing Site.

Make your way north for 2.7 miles (4.3 km) from the center of Frederiksted to find this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve, which is located on the ocean.
2 | Estate Mount Washington Plantation
Estate Mount Washington Plantation is an old sugar plantation that has been restored with great effort. The collection of ruins in the area have been renovated and a trail has been built so that guests can explore the many ruins in the area.
Make your way southeast for a short distance (about a kilometer) from Butler Bay Nature Preserve to get to this historical site, which is located on Rte. 63.

The course has been named a "must play" by Golf Magazine, and received their Gold Medal Award. Located in a region that's a favorite for hikers and outdoors enthusiasts, the views offered here are spectacular.
This golf course is at 72 Estate River, and is two miles (three kilometers) to the south west of the center of Cane Bay.

Administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service, this refuge was established to protect one of the rarest reptiles in the world, the St. Croix Ground Lizard, as well as a variety of bird and other wildlife species that depend on the island ecosystem to survive.
Situated on the ocean, this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve is on the island of Green Cay, one and a quarter miles (two kilometers) northeast of Buccaneer Golf Course.

Located on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Croix, the Southgate Coastal Reserve was created in 1999 as a protected area for migratory birds that make their way through the islands each year.
Found within driving distance from Christiansted, this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve is only 0.7 miles (1.1 km) from Green Cay National Wildlife Refuge.

Sand Point National Wildlife Refuge was established as a protected area in 1984, as it is an important area for the endangered leatherback sea turtle. History buffs may also enjoy the island, because the Aklis Site, which dates back to 400 A.D.
