Half Penny Beach

Also known as Haypenny Bay an Ha penny Bach, Half Penny Beach is a long stretch of sand that stays pretty deserted most of the time. With just a small bed and breakfast and a dining club nearby, there isn't too much tourist activity, thought the waters are calm enough and pretty enough to warrant it.

Located on the southeastern coast of the island of St. Croix, 2.8 miles south of downtown Christiansted, You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying very close. Half Penny Beach stands out from other beaches because it's the ideal location for escaping the hustle of the Virgin Islands' urban areas. Many of the other beaches in the Virgin Islands offer views of the sea that are just as pretty, but are usually busier because they're frequented by tourists looking for a lively scene.

How to Access The Beach

Located just south of Christiansted, you can access the beach via South Shore Road, turning at the pink pillars.

Amenities and Ambiance

White sands and calm aquamarine waters typify this beach, which has relatively no shady spots to speak of. There is some seagrass to add to the scenery.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here. The water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some equipment if you want to see the underwater world.

Half Penny Beach brings visitors a calm and serene haven, as the location that surrounds the beach is free of city-life and traffic.

Other Beaches

There are multiple beaches to discover on St. Croix, of course, so perhaps you can explore more than one.

You might also enjoy Davis Bay, located within cab range of the beach. With a gorgeous beach, Davis Bay is a fine swimming spot on the northern side of St. Croix, and although it can get a bit windy, families and bodysurfers gravitate to this area to play in the waters. Still, if you're searching for something a little more active, you might enjoy people watching at Grotto Beach. It's located three and a half miles to the north.

You might also want to visit Sugar Beach, located three and a half miles away.

While the Virgin Islands has many alluring attractions, Half Penny Beach is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
