5 | Fort Sale Ruins

Built in 1643 and abandoned in 1695, this triangular Dutch fort served four empires in its short history. Built by the Netherlands, it would later belong to the British, then the Spanish, and then finally the French who would abandon it.

4 | Christiansted Boardwalk

There are many ways to explore downtown Christiansted, though one of the most popular is definitely a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk that stretched along the cities northern coast. As you wind along with the wooden planks as they travel from the Harbour Ship Base to D Hamilton Jackson Park, you will pass some of the most popular bars, restaurants, and shops on the island.

Go a half mile (three quarters of a kilometer) to the west from St. Croix Marine to get to this scenic trail, which is situated on From Watergut Street to Hospital Street.

5 | Jones Maritime Dock Marina

Built in 1830 by the Dutch, this grand house housed the Governor of the islands until 1871 when the Dutch moved the capital to the island of St. Thomas. Today, the house is used mainly for historical education and cultural events.

15 | Maria Henle Studio

Located in an 18th century loft in Christiansted, Maria Henle Studio is the main gallery of diseased artist Maria Henle run by her family with permission from her estate to sell her works. Despite living abroad for many years, Henle was a native of St. Croix who worked in color etchings that depicted scenes of Caribbean landscapes and the sea.

16 | The Lutheran Church

Originally the Dutch Reformed Church on St. Croix, this building was built in 1744 and sold to the Lutherans in 1831, who made this their main church on the island. Today, the church is known for being one of the oldest Lutheran Churches in U.S.
