Ground transportation isn't the only way to get around St. Johns. Thanks to this town's location on the northwest coast of the Caribbean island of Antigua, ferries are also a very viable source of transportation. Tourists considering getting out on the opening sea will be able to take a local ferry directly from St. Johns, or head to English Harbour for international boat travel.

Riding the Ferries

North of St. Johns is Antigua's smaller sister island of Barbuda. This island is known for its natural spaces and offers a glimpse of what life was like in the Caribbean before development took over. A ferry out of the capital city is available Tuesday through Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Tourists are invited to take the 90 minute journey then spend their day exploring all that Barbuda has to offer, before returning at 3:45 p.m. The cost is EC$260 or $96(USD) for adults and EC$200 or $96(USD) for children round trip. Call Barbuda Express at 268-560-7989 if you need more details.

International transport between Antigua and the rest of the Caribbean via ferry is sparse. However, there is one ferry service that can be counted on for day tripping, or if you have business to conduct: the Montserrat Ferry. This service is offered on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, leaves from St. Johns, and costs EC$300 round trip for an adult, while children pay half price. You can call Montserrat Ferry at 664-496-9912 on Montserrat and 268-778-9786 on Antigua for specific scheduling details.
