Once of the earlier British forts on the island, Fort James was constructed in 1706 in fear of an eventual French invasion. Till this day it stands guard in front of St. John's Harbor, though now mainly as a tourist attraction. Feel free to head over to Fort James and take a look at the construction, rooms, and of of course the excellent view.
Those wishing to visit Fort James may choose to book their trip on St. John's, as those staying in this part of Antigua will be pleased to have easy site access during their time there. You can expect little traffic surrounding this historic site, particularly since there are very few places to stay nearby.

And, one of the most exciting possibilities while spending some time exploring the area could be sharing a meal at a restaurant within traveling distance of this historical site. The most frequented nearby restaurant is Russell's, which dishes out Caribbean fare. It is only around about a hundred yards from this landmark, so stop by and try something off the menu. Also near Fort James you and your companions will encounter eateries including Millers by the Sea and Sandhaven where you will not want to get up and go without taking a bite of their specialty barbecue.
