From restored plantation houses to tiny new hotels and all-inclusive resorts, lodging on St. Kitts can be as steeped in history or as contemporary as the islands themselves.

The island is known for its plantation-style houses that take visitors back to an era when sugar cane was the region's main source of income. At these restored plantation houses, visitors get an up-close peek at colonial daily customs while enjoying the intimacy of a quiet inn. Having drinks with other guests before dinner may be part of the gracious island hospitality you will experience when you book a room with a history.

Basseterre and the nearby Frigate Bay are popular destinations amongst tourists. Access to the beaches is the biggest draw, but these areas also offer a good variety of accommodations, including a few large resorts. Elsewhere on the island, tourists will find charming coastal towns, historical sites, soaring peaks and other attractions, but very few places to stay.

Personal Consideration

Planning your trip to St. Kitts involves considering multiple factors, especially when it comes to choosing where to stay.

Party Size

Finding a place to accommodate a large group of people at an affordable price can sometimes be a hassle. Look into hotels that specialize in suites, or rental properties large enough that everyone will be comfortable.

At times, you can find accommodations that specialize in the activities that you are interested in pursuing. Some hotels offer packages that include diving trips, or days out on the boat fishing.

Length of Stay

Most people vacation on St. Kitts for just a few days, but those who are planning an extended stay have more to consider. Staying in a resort can be great for a short period of time, but longer trips might required for some rental properties.

...find a number of lodging options in your price range...

Accommodation costs are at their highest during the peak months of December through February, but hotels can be discounted as much as 40 percent during the off season. Most hotels add a 10 percent service charge to the bill as well as a 7 percent government tax.

Prices for accommodations usually range from $75(USD) to more than $300(USD) for one night's stay on either St. Kitts or Nevis, though accommodations can cost as low as $25(USD) in some locations.

When searching for a hotel on St. Kitts, it's helpful to review our Star Ratings. These ratings are based upon the quality of the hotel, including the service, décor, comfort, and amenities. The ratings are given without recognition of the price, so you may be able to find a number of lodging options in your price range in all of the rating categories.

One and Two Stars

Hotels rated with 1 Star on St. Kitts are small, and often privately owned and operated by the same person or family. The rooms are often very plainly decorated, and have few amenities. This will be just fine, however, for vacationers who place more emphasis on exploring the island than lounging in a posh hotel suite.

When it comes to the 2 Star accommodations, you'll find that the rooms are often the same small size if not a little larger. Usually the rooms will still be sparsely decorated, though maybe with a little more care to detail, and amenities remain basic. You may find that these hotels are a part of a small national chain.

Three Stars

As you approach St. Kitt's 3 Stars properties, you begin to enjoy more comfortably sized rooms, with more carefully chosen appointments, and a well-liked staff. These hotels will likely have a bar or restaurant (or both), and room service.

Four Stars

Luxury amenities begin to pop up as you move towards the 4 Star resorts. Rooms are decorated with great care and often have themes. The staff makes it their goal to provide each guest with the experience of a lifetime, and there may be high-end amenities, and lots of them.

Five Stars

It doesn't get any better than a 4 1/2 or 5 Star. To merit this grade, properties must be beautifully furnished, very comfortable, very well taken care of, nicely landscaped, and frequently updated.

Depending upon what you're looking for, finding a hotel on St. Kitts and Nevis that is right for you can sometimes be a long process. Still, if you take your time and weigh all of your options, you'll thank yourself in the long run.
