Brimstone Hill Fortress

This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by the British and once protected all of St.Kitts; a beacon of power for the whole of British Caribbean. It was eventually abandoned, and fell to ruins. However, thanks to the dedication of historic societies, the fort has been restored to its former glory.

What to Expect

The main office at Brimstone Hill Fortress offers hand held audio tours, so that you can explore the fort at your own pace. When you are done, you can walk over to the canteen and relax with a cold drink and a bite to eat.

The fort itself is made of black volcanic rock, and the main building is placed begins a wall with cannons. The fortress as a whole overlooks a steep hill that eventually ends in the water, offering fantastic views of the sea.

Location and What's Nearby

Brimstone Hill Fortress visitors will be able to enjoy one or two outdoor activities like hitting a few rounds of golf and taking to the coast not far away. Historic site guests with a keen interest in golf will surely enjoy heading over to nearby Royal St. Kitts Golf Club. Uneventful days can also be planned at Pump Bay, the closest beach. Although the selection might be scarce, a few other equally enjoyable outdoor possibilities to choose from nearby. If you'd prefer to stay out of the sun, there is also a brief selection of additional attractions within a short range. Not far away you'll find Fort Charles, one of only a couple indoor places of interest located in the immediate surroundings of the historic site.

This site is open to the public everyday from 9:30am until 5:30pm.


Visitors pay $8(USD) to enter the park, while locals pay just $5(USD). Children are half price.=
