Each year, St. Kitts and Nevis host numerous events and festivals that islanders and vacationers can enjoy together.
If you're going to be on either island during one of these events, make it a point to stop by -- you won't be sorry you did.
There is no festival that typifies the Caribbean more than Carnival, a typically pre-Lenten festival filled with colorful parades, masquerades, music, and street fairs. In St. Kitts, Carnival takes place over the Christmas and New Years holidays.
In July St. Kitts hosts another huge event, Culturama. Culturama is a week long event filled with street fairs, beauty pageants, jump-ups, and live music. All of this is to celebrate the emancipation of slaves on St. Kitts and Nevis in the 1830s.
Triathlons are popular on St. Kitts and Nevis. The triathlon season begins with the Nevis Annual Olympic Triathlon. Competitors from around the world compete in the triathlon which consists of a 1500m swim, 40 km bike ride, and 10 km run.
Athletic vacationers won't want to miss (and may want to participate in) the St. Kitts Triathlon in April. The event is broken down so that people of all fitness levels can compete.
The very next month, in May, is the St. Kitts International Triathlon. This triathlon is an ITU sanctioned event, and features a swim in South Frigate Bay, a bike ride along the Southeast Peninsula, and a run along the Frigate Bay area.
The St. Kitts Music Festival takes place each year in June. The event features all genres of music considered to be Caribbean, including reggae, soca, calypso, and more.
A weekend of fashion shows and cocktail parties mean that it is indeed Fashion Weekend on St. Kitts. The country puts on this event each year in March to prepare itself for the Miss World competition.

In June, the town of Canyon throws a street party called the Green Valley Festival. The main event is a calypso dance competition.
Foodies will definitely want to visit Nevis in November for the Nevis International Culinary Heritage Exposition (NICHE) where top chefs from throughout the Caribbean join to host cooking demos, symposiums, dinners, and wine presentations.
Whether it be a cultural celebration, a sporting event, a music festival, or an event that doesn't seem to fall into any of these categories, there is a lot of fun to be had on St. Kitts and Nevis. Consult the local paper or the concierge desk at your hotel to see if there are any other events going on during your stay, and head out to one knowing you are going to have a great time.
