As dusk falls and you begin to make your way back to your hotel from a day spent at the beach, sailing the surrounding waters, or exploring the sites that St. Kitts and Nevis has to offer, be aware that you aren't confined to your room for the night.
Many hotels offer nighttime entertainment, such as on-site bars and nightclubs, and even theatrical performances and dance shows. Those who want to venture out beyond the walls of their resort have plenty of options as well. Between the two islands of St. Kitts and Nevis, it can easily be said that St. Kitts has the most most active nightlife, especially in the Frigate Bay area.
For a classy place to kick back and relax, check out Keys Cigar Bar. There are plenty of comfy chairs, a wide selection of aged rums and Cuban cigars, and chess tables. Live jazz and salsa music is common there as well.
Not all bars stay open late. Monkey Bar, in Frigate Bay, opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. Locals and visitors hang out around the bar, drinking and chatting as the day wares on; the scene here is laid back and never gets out of control. Shipwreck, a bar stocked with a variety of Caribbean rums, is another one that closes at sundown.
Mallory's Pub is a cozy little venue, with a theme each night of the week. There is Bingo on Mondays, local music on Tuesdays, Irish and Country Western music on Wednesdays, Student Night on Thursdays, Reggae Revival Night on Fridays, Party Night on Saturday, and Jazz Night on Sunday.
Thursday night bon fires, dance parties on Friday nights, and karaoke on Saturdays are the various nightly activities to be had at Mr. X Shiggidy Shack. Friday nights are especially busy, with locals invading the party.
Two pool tables, dart boards, card tables, dominoes, chess, and checkers are just a few among the numerous games available for guests at the Newtown Entertainment Centre. The bar offers a wide selection of beers and wines for gamers to knock back while they play the night away.
In American sports bar fashion, Oasis Sports Bar serves up draft beers, and is peppered with big screen televisions broadcasting local, European, and American sporting events.
There are a number of facilities on St. Kitts that mainly function as restaurants, but have bars that are popular as well. These include Bambu's, Bobsy's Bar and Grill, Buddies Beach Hut, Circus Grill, Da Lime Beach Bar & Grill, Eddy's Bar & Restaurant, Flamingo Restaurant and Bar, Inon's Beach Bar and Grill, PJ's Restaurant and Bar, Reggae Beach Bar, Rock Lobster Restaurant and Bar, Sunset Cafe, Sunshine's Beach Bar and Grill, and Tequila Sheila's.
If you're having trouble deciding which bar you want to visit, hop aboard the psychedelic Bob & Elvis The Party Bus. Wednesdays and Fridays has this bus transporting a wild crowd through Frigate Bay, and makes four stops for a little bar hopping action.
Located in a lighthouse outside of Basseterre, Club Kactus is a lively hangout – especially on weekends when Jamaican bands have a tendency to perform live.
...reggae, soca, and calypso music...
Quite aways outside of the city center of Basseterre, between Baker's Point and Stapleton is the relatively new Eclipse Bar and Nightclub. Most nights there is a DJ spinning the latest hits, but the party really picks up on Fridays with reggae, soca, and calypso music blasting through the speakers.
Henry's Night Spot in Cayon is a club that has been operating for over 20 years, and is a popular spot for dancing and entertainment on weekend nights.
Island Rhythms is part nightclub, part gaming facility, and part entertainment venue. There are three stories to split up the activities, and the music style tends to lean towards R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and soul.
Nevis is home to the open air joint, the Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. The lawn of the 18th century seaside plantation Great House is transformed using chimes and kites. Each night is different, with Thursday being a popular night because of the seafood buffet and live reggae music.
You don't have to hit up a bar or dance the night away in a club in order to have a good time after hours on St. Kitts and Nevis. Other options include the weekly Friday night Water Department Barbecue. The event is a classic Caribbean barbecue, where tents go up, and two locals grill up delicious eats, while people hang out, enjoying the food and socializing. There are also two casinos on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.
Whether you want to hang out at a friendly beach side barbecue party, kick back and relax at a sports bar, or dance the night away in a club, St. Kitts and Nevis have options for you. True, most of the hot spots are on St. Kitts, but true partiers will be able to find fun no matter where they are.
