Hotel Chocolat

The aptly named Hotel Chocolat has the unique property of being located in the middle of the Rabot Estate cacao fields. The hotel pays tribute to the crop that it is built upon throughout all aspects of its business, including the name of the rooms (“pods”), the complimentary features (fresh, local chocolate and coffee), dishes at the Boucan restaurant, tours of the estate and fields, and even the spa treatments. Hotel Chocolat focuses heavily on enhancing the nature around it- not just the cacao fields but also the hiking paths and gorgeous vistas of the Piton peaks and Caribbean Sea.

These all-inclusive cottages are a good option for travelers hoping for some after-dinner fun. They have live entertainment from time to time, and there are at least two bars at the cottages to choose from as well.

Positioned in Cocoa Juvenate Spa, 1.6 miles south-southeast of downtown Soufriere, Hotel Chocolat, an all-inclusive complex, welcomes vacationers who are thinking about lodging in this neighborhood or nearby. If you're curious, the center of Soufrière is a mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) to the north-northwest.

The Hotel Chocolat has two different type of rooms. The standard Cocoa Pods are 450 square-feet with a four poster king bed, lounging sofa, and open-sky rainforest shower. These rooms are build around a courtyard with an old Royal Poincianas tree and have great views of either the Petit Piton mountain or the courtyard and oasis water features.

The Cocoa Pods Luxe rooms are 750 square-feet and are elevated to create incredible views of the two island peaks and the Caribbean Sea. In addition, the Luxe pods have King size beds, a lounge with two chaise lounge day beds, granite countertops, open-sky rainforest shower, and verandah with rocking chairs.

All Hotel Chocolat rooms feature free Wi-Fi; safety deposit box; REN toiletries; an iPod with custom playlists to enhance the atmosphere of your room and the estate; iPod docking station, fresh coffee, tea, chocolate, water, and ice each day; hair dryer; housekeeping; a bottle of Hotel Chocolat prosecco, and more. Activities and Amenities

Most activities in and around Hotel Chocolat accentuate the natural wonder of the cacao groves, rainforest, mountains, and beaches. One of the highlights of the hotel is the ability to explore the cacao groves, whether as a part of a tour or on your own. You'll also be able to sample everything grown on the estate right off of the tree including the cacao, mango, papaya, guava, soursop, breadfruit, and banana.

There are plenty of great hiking trails around the hotel worth exploring including one that leads to the top of Rabot Ridge for possibly the best view imaginable. History buffs might prefer to walk to the historic site of the Battle of Rabot where an expert will expound upon it. A short drive away, the beautiful beaches of Saint Lucia offer lounging, swimming kayaking, sailing, diving, and more, or save the trip and enjoy Hotel Chocolat's pool. And of course you can enjoy a session at the CocoaJuvenate, a meal at the Boucan restaurant, or simply lounge and enjoy the view and the peace of the estate.

There are also a variety of tours around the island that you can partake in beyond the tour of the Rabot Estate itself. For those looking for an active afternoon in nature, guided options include the climb of the Piton peaks, drive through the local volcano, zip-line over the rainforest canopy, or deep sea fishing. For those who want to relax outside of the comfort of the hotel, options include sailing and endulging in the natural sulphur spring baths.

Hotel Chocolat has a spa called CocoaJuvenate with unique cacao inspired spa treatments. The spa is located at the Rabot Estate and is elevated to feature breathtaking views of Petit Piton. The spa has four therapy rooms and a variety of treatments, but the highlight here is the Full Cacao massage- light exfoliation from cacao nibs progresses into a full body massage with cacao oil and cacao butter. The use of the estate grown cacao in the therapy products is designed to promote relaxation and rejuvenation through the natural benefits of cacao. And if a couple books six or more nights at Hotel Chocolat, they will be given a free massage.

When the sun goes down and you are no longer able to explore the trails around the Rabot Estate or simple stand in awe of the extraordinary views, Hotel Chocolat features dinner theater, dancing, a mini-steel band, and the bar and restaurant of the Boucan.

Hotel Chocolat's restaurant, Boucan, is open to guests and the public. As you might expect from a restaurant located in the middle of a cacao estate, the menu is inspired by the local crop and features the plant in each of its dishes. This “Cacao Cuisine,” as it is being called, isn't simply dripping in chocolate; the cacao bean is carefully utilized in a variety of ways, typically to add a subtle sweet or savory accent and bring out the true flavor in a dish. The restaurant is designed to enhance the extraordinary vistas that surround it, being nestled in the Piton peaks, by featuring a roof inspired by the canopy of the cacao trees and a high platform for 360 degree views of the surrounding nature. Boucan is open for all meals and for nightly cocktails and the dress code is smart/ casual, though it is elegant enough where more formal clothing isn't out of place.

Outside of the on-location dining, those hoping for extra culinary diversity might also want to consider the area's other local restaurants. Visitors staying at Hotel Chocolat will encounter a few solid places to eat within reach of these accommodations. It's helpful to pick out a few restaurants in the area that are worth trying, though Hotel Chocolat does have dining of its own, including Boucan.
