The area around the cove at Limetree Beach is developed, with a few hotels along the shore that provide restrooms, bars, and restaurants for guests. The beach's atmosphere is perfect for reading a book while lounging or having a tropical drink, and a watersports stand provides all types of equipment and instruction for some fun on the water.
Located on the southern outskirts of Frenchman Bay, Limetree Beach is on the South East coast of St. Thomas. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the vicinity. Although the area isn't crowded with buildings, many will find this area exactly what they're looking for, especially as a way to find some peace and quiet.
Access to the beach is provided by a dirt path that connects to Route 30. Due to its somewhat rocky terrain, drivers should use a vehicle with four wheel drive.
Limetree Beach resides along a natural cove on St. Thomas offering beautiful views and fantastic sunsets, as well as the chance to catch sight of iguanas lounging in the sun. The sands are soft but the waters can be dangerous, with waves that range from mild to very rough, and a rocky entrance is not conducive to swimming. For those that hope to sunbathe or walk on the soft sand, the surrounding grape trees and palms make for excellent shade.
The concession stand at this spot is also an option. On some days, it may be possible to buy food from one of the local vendors who typically set up on this shoreline.
Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. The water here is clear enough for snorkeling, so grab some gear if you're looking to see what goes on beneath the surface. The area has a few hotels, yet the beach does not get too crowded, and most of the people here are tourists enjoying the sun or watching for iguanas.
Since Limetree Beach is of course found in an active, busy area, you'll want to plan accordingly.
