Secret Harbor

With a scattering of rocks just offshore, Secret Harbor Beach has some fantastic snorkeling areas for exploring the deep. A nearby set of condos and hotels blends into the scenery nicely and offers guests of the beach a bar, restaurant, and restrooms.

Set in Cowpet Bay, Secret Harbor is on the East edge of St. Thomas. You might want to drop by even if you are not staying in the immediate vicinity. You may notice that beaches throughout the Virgin Islands are usually somewhat secluded and quiet, but Secret Harbor is the exception.

There is also a great restaurant right on-site if you're interested; many find it the perfect, convenient solution for lunch. The Virgin Islands has so many interesting places to sit and enjoy a meal, but not every meal you enjoy has to be at a fine restaurant. Many visitors find it more convenient and relaxing to eat on near the beach than in another restaurant. Did you know that some hotels are happy to pack picnic lunches for their guests? Otherwise, you could easily grab some of the Virgin Islands' famous street food along the way.

The concession stand at this spot is also an option. On some days, it may be possible to order some food from one of the mobile vendors who typically operate along this coastline.

This beach has public restrooms——something you'll appreciate if you spend more than a couple of hours here. You will also have access to chairs and umbrellas here, so visitors looking for a break from the hot sun will not go leave unhappy. Fortunately, the water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some gear if you're wanting to check out the underwater sites. With small condos and hotels lining the shores, Secret Harbor Beach mainly attracts tourists. It is especially popular with the singles crowd. This beach is also great for families.

Travelers will find Secret Harbor on the East coast of St. Thomas. It is close to Clinton Phipps Racetrack, which is only a short distance away, so tourists could take a cab or probably walk to this attraction, and it is one of the attractions in the area.

If you want to learn more about the history of the Virgin Islands, there are lots of sites which offer a historic look at the nation. One of the nearest historical attractions is Bluebeard's Castle, which is a short cab ride away.

The nearby town of Red Hook is not an overly urbanized area, but still has its fair share of things to do. From the shore, Red Hook is a fairly short distance away, about a half mile (three quarters of a kilometer).


Whether this spot is full of bodies or practically empty will depend on how many hotel guests decide to make the trip as well. Typically, you can expect to encounter a fair number of vacationers who are staying in the area.

There are multiple beaches to discover on St. Thomas, of course, so Secret Harbor is not your only option.

If the exciting vibe at Secret Harbor is what you're looking for, you'll want to consider checking out Lindquist Beach, a beach with a similar ambiance. You'll find it a mile and a half to the north. One of the best secrets on St.. Thomas is Lindquist Beach, a perfect Caribbean beach, that resides off of an unmarked dirt road, and thus stays unpopulated in a busy tourist area. If it's a bit of peace and quiet you're after, Cowpet Beach is a beach which doesn't see as many crowds. It is located just a short distance away.
