How to Reach Stocking Island by Airplane

You'll have to fly to Great Exuma before taking a ferry to Stocking Island

Stocking Island is a small but peaceful destination just off the coast of Great Exuma. Only a handful of people stay overnight in rental homes at one time, and if you couple this with the fact that the island itself is only three miles long, you'll see why it does not have its own airport. Instead, visitors will fly to the airport across the way on Great Exuma and make use of a ferry to get to their final stop.

Most people who fly into Exuma International Airport are greeted with the smallest airport they've ever encountered. The runway is just 7050 feet long, and the building housing customs is not much larger than that of someone's personal home. Thankfully, the process of getting through immigration and customs is pretty quick on this island, so you can get your vacation started without having to wait for hours in line.

Direct flights to Exuma are available through Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and Toronto with well-known carriers, but they can be pricy. In order to save money, consider a layover at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on New Providence Island, then flying with a local carrier like Bahamasair or SkyBahamas.

The following chart will tell you which airlines offer service from the U.S. as well as the airports they fly from. Booking services may not recognize the best options so it can be helpful to know which airlines actually fly direct to this location.

A ferry is available at the dock in Georgetown. It is run by Club Peace & Plenty, a local , and is free to use by guests of the property. Others pay $12(USD) each way. The ferry leaves the docks twice a day at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., so it is best to try and arrange your flight so that you can make it to the ferry with ease.

There is no doubt about it. A secluded getaway on a quiet island in the Bahamas is the vacation that dreams are made of. Though you can't fly direct, all it takes is a short ferry ride and your tropical paradise awaits.
