Back Bay

Located between Mount Irvine and Grafton, Back Bay is as secluded as they come on the island of Tobago. A hike is required to access the beach, but many avid body surfers find that it is worth the trip.

Located near the middle of the island of Tobago, 0.4 miles north of Mt. Irvine, Back Bay is on the West coast of the island, You should consider stopping by regardless of whether you're staying in the immediate vicinity. Back Bay is one part of Trinidad and Tobago's coast which rarely gets too crowded, even though its not far from some of Trinidad and Tobago's best hotspots.

How to Access The Beach
To get to Back Bay, visitors must park along Shirvan Road, pass by an abandoned estate property, and hike a cliff side trail.

Amenities and Ambiance

Back Bay is set below a cliff of rugged rocks. The sand is a deep tan, almost brown color, and the waters are cloudy and nearly green. High tide brings broken shells to the shore, making the beach especially good for beach combing and walking.

Unfortunately, restrooms will not be available here, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.

Remember to take into account that Back Bay is in an area which is visited by quite a number of tourists, so factor that into your plans.

Of course, there are lots of other spots along the coast of Tobago, so Back Bay is just one of your options.

Vacationers may also want to visit Stone Haven Bay, which is located within a couple of miles. Stonehaven Bay on the west coast of Tobago, welcomes guests with warm golden sands and cool waters that are perfect for swimming. It is occassionally possible to see a turtle laying its eggs in the sand as well.

Of course, there is much more to do besides lounge on the sand on Trinidad and Tobago, but Back Bay is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
