You might be surprised to learn that renting a car on Tobago is easy. With a variety of companies and plenty to see, guests will be able to find the perfect car for their vacation.

Renting a Car

There is no shortage of rental car agencies on Tobago. However, the vast majority of them will be located in Crown Point by the airport and ferry dock. Still, since this is where you will most likely enter the island anyway, it is a good place to get a car. Just note that most of the agencies will be local, so you will likely not recognize the name of the agency you rent from.

Review this table which lists many of the area rental agencies.

The Cost of Renting a Car

... not that expensive ...

When it comes to renting the car, you should be prepared to spend a little. On an average day, you can expect to pay anywhere between $65 and $75 per day for your vehicle, which is not that expensive. However, on top of this you will need to add tax, some government fees, and of course, the price of gasoline.

Different companies sometimes charge very different rates so it can be worth your while to contact several firms. The lowest rates displayed are only available from the least costly agencies during the slow season. The high rates are what you should anticipate at one of the busiest firms during the peak season.

Driving on Tobago

Just like when driving in Trinidad, you will face a variety of development when it comes to roads. The cities will have well developed roads that tend to be crowded, and as you leave the cities the roads may become less crowded, but they also become less developed. Be sure to pay attention, look out for holes, and make sure to drive on the left!

Gas Stations

Tobago is pretty good about having a gas station near your location. Still, there are only a handful, so it is a good idea to fill up whenever you have the chance.

There is a pleasant mix of gasoline stations near the area. View the listing directly below to learn where some are located.

Gas Stations
Name Location
Cambee Gas Station 2.8 mi. (4.5 km) West-Southwest of Scarborough
Charlotteville Gas Station Charlotteville

Driving on Tobago may be a little different than what you're used to back home, but overall most tourists find the experience to be a pleasurable one. Thanks to the relatively low prices and the freedom it allows, renting a car is a popular choice amongst visitors on this expansive island.
