Long Bay East

Located on the eastern half of Tortola and in close proximity to the international airport, Long Bay offers a quiet beach spot for the entire family. Calm, shallow waters make for excellent swimming, while sea shell collecting stands as one of the most popular activities on Long Bay East. As many tourists head to nearby Trellis Bay, the beach at Long Bay is relatively quiet.

Set on the western coast of Beef Island, You might think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the vicinity. Though it's removed from some of the more heavily traveled areas, many folks still find this a great destination as it attracts those looking for easygoing atmosphere.

How to Access The Beach
Visitors must cross Queen Elizabeth Bridge, into Beef Island, to get there. Continuing on Waterfront Drive, drivers should turn off shortly before the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, where a local road will connect directly with the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

Long Bay East is a long stretch of pristine white sand on the eastern tip of the island. Dramatic green hills and the turquoise blue waters decorate the view from the beach, while the soft sand is perfect for sunbathing.

The snack bar located at this spot is perfect for quick lunches and cold drinks, too. Depending on the season and time of day, you may also be able to try local specialties from one of the local vendors who are generally found here.

Unfortunately, you won't find any public restrooms along this coastline, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. The water here is fit for snorkeling, so grab your gear if you want to check out what lies beneath the surface. Since it is so secluded, Long Bay East is a quiet place to relax, without crowds.

Long Bay East is beautiful natural site, which you'll find on the West coast of Beef Island; the area is home to other attractions such as VI Maritime Museum, which is two and a half miles away.

Historical attractions like Josiah's Bay Plantation provide a nice compliment to the scenery of Long Bay East, and allow visitors to learn more about the Virgin Islands, without venturing too far from the coast.

Long Bay East is very close to Road Town, so touring the city could be a fun side-trip after visiting the beach. Not far away you'll find Road Town, a city which is not lacking in exploration opportunities, yet also not overflowing with buildings. From the coast, Road Town is a quick trip away, roughly five miles (eight kilometers).

There are plenty of beautiful beach locations to choose from on Beef Island, and Long Bay East is just one option.

You might also enjoy Nanny Cay, situated six and a half miles to the west-southwest. More active guests, though, may be interested in Little Buck Island, which offers a little more opportunity for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. It's found a mile and a half to the south west.
