Vacationers who want a quick and easy way to get around Trinidad can hail one of the island's taxi cabs, which can be found almost anywhere on the island.

Taxi Companies

Taxis usually meet most flights at Piarco International Airport, and can also be found near hotels and other attractions. While your resort concierge will typically be happy to help you call a cab, if you're out an about and need to hail a cab on your own, you'll quickly know that you've found a valid driver by the letter "H" on his license plate, and by his uniform. Taxi drivers on Trinidad and Tobago werar white shirt jackets, black or blue pants, and have a yellow identification pass. If one of these things is missing, leave the vehicle immediately and find a different driver to avoid being swindled.

Rates, Fares, and Fees

The main concern of most taxi companies is the comfort of their passengers, and some cabs even have left-hand-drive cars to make their customers feel more like they are riding at home. When hailing a cab, remember that fares are not regulated by the government, and most cabs have fixed rates according to the distance of the trip. Usually cab fare is inexpensive, but travelers should make sure to negotiate the cost of your trip with the driver before you set off for your destination. The airports usually post cab fares in U.S. and TT dollars.

The following table shows some cab fares for the area.
