ASA Wright Nature Center

Established in 1967, the ASA Wright Nature Center is a non-profit eco-center dedicated to keeping the protected area in its natural state and study conservation. It is 1,200 feet in the mountains of the Northern Range, seven miles north of the town of Arima. This spot is particularly favored amongst birders for the 400 birds that nest here annually.

ASA Wright Nature Center takes up nearly 1,500 acres of forested land of a former plantation known for producing cocoa, coffee, and citrus.

With birding of special interest to most visitors at ASA Wright Nature Center, the center has created the Dunston Cave especially for the breeding of the nocturnal Oilbird. There are over 400 birds that nest throughout the property, as well as 97 mammals, 55 reptiles, 617 butterflies, 25 amphibians, and over 2,200 types of plants.

Location

Situated in the vicinity of Port of Spain, north of Arima, ASA Wright Nature Center always welcomes travelers rooming in this section of Trinidad. However, even if you aren't staying very close, you are free to stop by to enjoy a great time. It is northeast of Chaguanas.

There are several picks of restaurants to choose from in the community around the wildlife reservation. Cocos Hut Restaurant, which has a menu full of Caribbean meals, offers convenient access to this wildlife reservation. KFC Broadway and Home Restaurant Ltd are additional refreshment choices nearby where visitors will be able to enjoy the local foods and culture of Trinidad and Tobago.

Nearby Attractions

Travelers who like wildlife reservations, and are interested in visiting others, should consider Blanchisseuses Forest Reserve and Yarra Forest Reserve; the first and closest of which is 4.1 miles to the north-northeast of this wildlife reservation. There are at least one or two additional attractions in the area, including Caribbean Cinemas (Trincity 8), which is seven miles away the vicinity of Port of Spain. Also, you might think about heading over to Kay Donna Drive In, which is another attraction not far away.

Wildlife reservations are nice for a few hours here and there, but there's even more to see during your stay. The following table includes other attractions close-by.

Hours

Advance reservations must be made for day visitors, who may check out the center between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. Guided tours of the property take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and last for about 90 minutes.

Policies

Guests at ASA Wright Nature Center should be aware that littering, loud noises, and feeding the animals is not allowed. Only water is allowed on the trail, which should never be strayed from, and children under 12 must be properly supervised.

Wright Nature Center emphasizes that it is of great importance to email or call to confirm that you will be visiting the centre.

Cost

Visitors can expect to pay $10(USD) for adulte and $6(USD) for children between the ages of six and 12 to tour the ASA Wright Nature Center grounds.

Buffet styled lunch is between 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at a cost of $24 USD from Monday to Saturday. This offer costs $34 USD on Sundays.
