Just across the bay from Fort de France, Trois Ilet has a lot to offer visitors, and there are plenty of ways to keep busy. As you plan your getaway, you'll want to think about how you'll get from place to place. While a rental car is most recommended, the taxi services here are reliable and most people enjoy the ride. Unfortunately, prices are very high, so you'll have to make room in your budget if you want to let a local driver get you around.
Taking a taxi in Trois Ilets is somewhat of a unique experience compared to what is known about the rest of the Caribbean. Here, 80 percent of the taxis on the road are luxury vehicles with comfortable seating, crisp air conditioning, and drivers that are more formal than friendly. These vehicles generally have a sign reading “Taxi” on the roof, so you shouldn't have any trouble picking them out in a crowd, but, make sure to check if there is a meter in the vehicle. If there is not, you are likely getting into an unlicensed cab which means the driver is operating illegally.
If you'd like to make reservations for a taxi to be ready for you at a specific time and place, you should get in touch with one of these local taxi agencies.

As previously mentioned, the taxis in Trois Ilets are metered, and rates are determined by mileage rather than time spent in the cab. You will also be charged 40 percent extra if you need a ride between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
One way to save money if you'll be making a lot of stops is to hire a driver to take you on a tour. You can negotiate the cost with your driver, but expect to spend somewhere around $50(USD). No matter what you are using the service for, be sure to tip your driver accordingly. Fifteen percent is standard, but you can tip more or less depending on what you feel they deserve.
