Where once it could be said that the ferry services between the Turks and Caicos islands were too few and lacking in dependability, today there are a number of ferries that visitors can choose from.

Riding the Ferries

Turks and Caicos visitors have the option of traveling between North Caicos and Providenciales aboard TCI Ferry which is operated by Caribbean Cruisin'. They offer several trips daily between Heaving Down Rock Walkin Marina on Provo and Sandy Point Marina on North Caicos. The trip, which takes place aboard a ferry with plenty of storage space and comfortable seating, lasts 25 minutes each way.

For a one-way ticket, expect to pay $45 for children under the age of nine and $70(USD) for everyone else if you are taking the South Route. You can expect to pay $30 per adult and $15 for children if you are taking the North Route. Round-trip tickets are of course more costly. South Route RT tickets cost $110 per adult and $70 per child. North Route RT tickets cost $55 per adult and $30 per child.

If the weather is agreeable, there is a government subsidized ferry that transports passengers between Grand Turk and Salt Cay. The ferry travels between the two islands twice daily, once in the morning and again in the middle of the afternoon.

You can also hire private sailing companies to transport you between islands, or even charter a boat and sail yourself if you have the appropriate skill set. Many tour boat operators offer these services on the side, such as Big Blue Unlimited and J&B Tours. Otherwise, the best way to get between islands is by flying.

As time goes on, and tourism becomes more prominent, the likelihood of more ferries offering regular services looks good. For now, what exists is a great way to enjoy a lrelaxing sail as you travel from one place to another.
