Set in downtown Cruz Bay, Virgin Fire is on Mongoose Junction. Although some delight in the general selection of Creole-inspired cuisine, this possible dining pick serves up an awful lot of barbecue and seafood. Virgin Fire serves up a menu of hearty Caribbean fare, utilizing locally sourced, fresh product whenever possible. Because of this, some items on the menu may not be available all the time. Typical offerings include fresh fish, flatbreads, barbecue ribs, small plates, jerk meats, fish n' chips, and jambalaya. For dessert, try their specialty "Fire on the Mountain" which consists of pineapple, coconut, and orange ice cream with meringue and nutmeg served flaming.
Located just outside the heart of Frederiksted, The Pink Spot is a smart choice worth considering if you are going to be visiting this town and nearby areas. In the mood for tapas? Even if it's outside your norm, there's no shame in it being a done-deal, as far as your itinerary goes. Aptly named, the restaurant is housed inside a pink Danish building with a prettily decorated courtyard and a bar-style inside. The overall ambiance is laid back and charming, while the theme is comedy; they try and bring in a comedian once a month or so and are looking into doing a few open mike nights. They also do live music once and a while. There are 19 tables not including the bar seats and the wall tables around the restaurant.
Situated in the heart of Coral Bay, Sweet Plantains is at 16118 Little Plantation. Fresh fish from the Virgin Islands' coasts and Creole flavors play nicely together at this laid-back favorite. Local favorite like saltfish cakes, meats topped with mango and guava sauces, and freshly made soups are what you'll find at Sweet Plantains.
P&P By the Sea is found in near the middle of Cruz Bay. Salty, fresh seafood and Creole fare are a great pair at this chilled-out eatery. The menu at P&P is not set and is in fact consistently changing based on which ingredients are available fresh. For dinner, you'll call at least 24 hours in advance to make a reservation, and at that time you can discuss what you'd like to eat. Patricia will do her best to accommodate your desires, but you'll want to stick to her specialties: seafood soups, rotis, curries goat, fritters, stuffer lobster, and johnny cakes.
