Part of the National Wildlife Refuge on the island of Vieques, Blue Beach is so named for the striking blue waters off the coast. From the entrance of the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge, travel for 3.5 miles towards the coast. The trip is marked by signs, but not that the road is rough, and only all terrain vehicles are recommended.
Formed into a 1.5 mile crescent, Blue Beach features white sand and calm turquoise waters. Gazebos line the shore, which is backed by thickly forested land. Not far off shore there is a small cay that makes for pretty pictures from the beach. Swimmers should stay away from the island though, as bombs and military weapons have been found near and on the island.

La Chiva is near, so a trip into the city——for snacks, drinks, and other attractions——is a convenient option. Vieques Town is the closest city and is an interesting area that brings together the quietude of the Caribbean and the urbanization of city life. From the shore, Vieques Town is just up the road, maybe four and a half miles (seven kilometers).
The crowdedness of the shoreline can vary widely, it depends on several things: the season, the weather, even how full nearby hotel rooms are. The area is not home to many major hotels, but you may meet visitors from smaller accommodations in the area.

If you like the ambiance at this beach, you might also like Naguabo Beach, found 22 and a half miles to the west. However, if that's not exactly what you're looking for, Secret Beach offers a few more possibilities for excitement, and is closer to nearby attractions. It's located three quarters of a mile to the east-northeast.
Vacationers may also want to visit Esperanza Beach, which is located six miles away.
La Chiva could be the ideal stretch of sand, but it is possible that it may not be the best choice for your family; in which case you should find a beach with a seclusion factor that suits you.
