Horseback riding is a great way to see the sleepy island of Vieques. The horses were bred right on the island and are trained to lead visitors on a tour like no other.
Tours are a two hour loop through the woods, rivers, hills, meadows, and beaches of Esperanza focusing especially on areas that cannot be reached by car. Tours consist of no more than 12 riders. Because small children cannot ride alone, they offer a shorter pony tour on the friendliest horses that lasts 15 minutes.
The cost per tour is $80(USD) for each person and pony rides for children are $15(USD). Cash is the only mode of payment accepted.
Tours leave daily at 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. so that guests can avoid mid-day heat.
Children must be over the age of seven to ride, and all riders must weigh less than 225 pounds. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended.
Located near the heart of the island of Vieques, in the general vicinity of Esperanza, Esperanza Riding Company is a good option if you're going to be staying on this part of the island or nearby. In case you're wondering, Isabel Segunda is to the northeast.
